"Felt" Handstitched Animals

Meet ... "Pi".

DSCF5963.JPG

He's an 'Azure-Winged Magpie' (so Pi for short).
He represents, as do all my hand-made animals, a feeling (from the past). This is because they are made of felt. Pi is quite fat, so probably represents my love of pies [more pics].

cropped_mepie.jpg

A very unique character, who stands out from the crowd, unfortunately he's a little too fat to fly very far. However this doesn't hinder him - he prefers to stay on the ground and collect sparkly treasures and pretty things.

"Azure-winged Magpie" Dæmon Character analysis:

A unique individual, you are sharp and sly, and exceedingly clever. You are dependent on your friends and family, though there's no doubt in your mind or anyone else's, that you can do just fine on your own.

Because of your mischievous, inquisitive, and talkative nature, many people view you as a pest, though in truth, you are really just misunderstood. But, content with yourself, you aren't willing to change. Those who do take the time to get to know you, however, are friends for life, and you'll never do anything to hurt them in any way.

You are curious and eccentric about things, and have to examine in great care and detail just about everything you see (especially ideas or objects that catch you eye). cropped_mirrorpic.jpg

An adventurer, you aren't picky about what you eat, as long as it's edible. You're fairly adaptable and possess a sweet demeanor.

Because of all this, you have a distinct appearance and contradicting reputation, which makes you easily recognizable and noticed by others, even though you are sometimes taken for granted.

Mon Dactylographe

Dscf5273.jpg

This is the latest addition to my art project and belongs to the crocodile (who wanted to be a writer). It will feature in the short film i'm hoping to make as a final piece.

If it's not blatantly obvious... it's a typewriter, albeit a very colourful one!

"Tea"-nager

teanager.jpg

I'm a rebel: a rebel against popular culture.

The sort of rebel who gets pyjamered at 8 o' clock and then makes a cup of tea and sits in bed with my fairy lights on watching the Mighty Boosh until i've eaten too much chocolate.

A rebel that then reads for a bit and goes to sleep ridiculously early, before having outrageous dreams.

I'm not a "tea"-nager for nothing.

Yurt Fantasies

Inside the beautiful yurtMy dream holiday has always concerned being in a tee-pee or yurt. i'm not quite sure why, but there's something about the idea of being in a fabric tent filled with rugs, colours, and textures, being low down and in a private space that seems very romantic and beautiful.
I also love being outdoors and having wandered around a yurt realised that they are fantastic !
The other day when researching camping holidays, i stumbled across this wonderful luxury, low-impact French yurt holiday company and it looks everything of my dream; apart from the price of course. The next time you have several hundred pounds going spare though and are feeling generous...

Did you know..?

Dscf5040.jpg

"Did you know?
The proportional ratio between the 4x4 and the driver >>>>
the bigger the 4x4 | the smaller the sex organ of the driver"

I think that just sums it up, with a bit of French cheekiness along the way! It was stuck to one of the vents outside the Pompidou centre in Paris - which i adore! (The centre that is, though the coloured vents are all very cool!)

Of course, my preferred car, and the car of choice in Paris is the Smart Car. I had to note too that many of them were driven by business-looking men, which to me says something positive about their security in comparison to those of other countries.

My Personal Explanation

cloud_falling.jpg

While walking Fudge during one of the many beautiful, crisp winter days we've seen recently I noticed a patch of white fluffiness covering the ground. There are sheep but they are two fields away, and this field - the "dog" field - doesn't ever contain sheep. In any case, it couldn't have been a sheep attacked or there would be blood (however morbid a thought-process that is!) so i decided it must have been a cloud that fell out of the sky.

I absoutely love this weather - it makes me feel very motivated, energetic and happy, though i wonder sometimes why is it that greyness makes us unhappy? I like rain, but i don't enjoy the endless dark, grey days. Apparently we need sunlight for photosynthesis or something... hmm!
In any case, i'm enjoying it!

Open

I'm am very proud to say that my very own petit café is finally open! It is perhaps the first time i have ever finished a website for my own personal use. Hopefully it will become the rendez-vous space of virtual flâneurs. Bring out the champagne!

Missing Lots of Things

broomstick.gif

I've had several recurring themes recently, the most common element of my dreams being that they're all very vivid!

The first person who glides through my dreams every few nights is Christian, and therefore makes my dreams wonderful! Normally i find dreams although occasionally fun are generally quite weird and twisted. However, with Christian on the other side of the world, he comes to visit me in my dreams, for various reasons, all positive, and we have lots of fun! This is partly what keeps me going, though i find it hard to explain that to anyone!

I had this fantastic dream the other night of flying. This has to be the second best type of dream (for first, see above) and this time i was flying on a broomstick. It was above a lawn of a stately place a bit like Cambridge or somewhere like that. Fudge was running across the lawn below me barking playfully and finding it great fun! I don't really need to look far for a 'meaning' as such, except that at the moment i'm trying new things, having more time to myself, which i see as a really positive thing! Perhaps i'm also relieved, or liberated, from the Cambridge idea.

Last night i had more of a night filled with ideas of missing things - missing buses, forgetting where i'd parked my car, missing boats and planes - all while trying to go on holiday. I think this is the dream way of the word 'missing' transferred to the literal sense, from the sense that I'm missing Christian.

Angry dogs

angry_dog.gif

Amongst a very vivid dream-filled night, the only part i clearly remember was walking with my dog and wherever i went we kept getting chased by large, vicious rottweilers and alsatians. They would jump over a fence, or run out of someone's front door, and for us. They never tried to attack me however, only my dog but thankfully didn't succeed.
Typically dogs represent loyalty, fidelity and protection but vicious and angry dogs are more to do with inner conflicts, and even betrayal and untrustworthiness. "If the dog is barking ferociously, then it represents your habit of unnecessary barking at people and the situations around you. It could also mean unfriendly companions."
I'm thinking that it may represent my good nature being attacked, but that does sound a little paranoid as an explanation! I think it's a little more subtle than that.

Je voudrais un croissant...

croissant.gif

I had a funny dream just before i woke up this morning in which i kept going into this french supermarket in the morning, looking for croissants. My family all got pain au chocolat but i wanted a normal croissant and they had always sold out. In the same dream i remember swimming across a sort of muddy lake/flood, where we were living and building things.

According to 'dreammoods.com' dreaming of eating a croissant shows a lack of love or affection in your life; "a void needing to be filled". Also, dreaming of a gentle flood (i assume it was a flood as it was where we were living!) supposedly shows worries over a certain matter being swept away. Which would be nice - i have been feeling quite stressed this last week, and am so glad to have a week off/to catch up on things.

I think i'll continue to keep my dreams on this site as well as everything else and leave the old one be for now.

Welcome to my new café! I'm so proud that it is finally open, so please be kind, make yourself comfy, and tip generously (leave a message).
Love Charlie :) x

current obsession...

Vianne Rocher is my idol at the moment - I've never wanted to be someone so much! It's because of her independence, her uniqueness and her colourful liveliness. Oh, and because she owns a café!

inspiring quote...

"These rough sketches, which are born in an instant in the heat of inspiration, express the idea of their author in a few strokes, while on the other hand too much effort and diligence sometimes saps the vitality and powers of those who never know when to leave off."

Latest Artwork

I'm quite inspired by his 'Odalisques' series from about 1925 due to their intense colour and decoration. I'd quite like to try doing some of my own versions, from photographs.
